The International Aerial Robotics Competition (Asia-Pacific Venue) Technical Committee was founded in Beihang University

The International Aerial Robotics Competition (Asia-Pacific Venue) Technical Committee’s establishment ceremony was held in E804 room of Beihang University New-Main-Building on November 19. The ceremony was hosted by Professor Haibin Duan in School of Automation of Beihang University, who is the member and deputy director-general of the Technical Committee on Guidance, Navigation and Control (TCGMC, CSAA) and the director of the IARC (Asia-Pacific Venue) Technical Committee. Professor Zongxia Jiao (Dean of the School of Automation of Beihang University), Professor Tao Zhang (Tsinghua University) and Renlin Tang (the director-general of TCGNC) as well as other member of the technical committee attended the event.

On the ceremony, Professor Zongxia Jiao, who represents the IARC (Asia-Pacific Venue), showed the appreciation to the committeemen added in the competition. He pointed that the IARC has a very wide influence in the world with the 22 years history as a top technology innovation practice race. The most prominent feature of this game is the that the aerial robots complete the task without the intervene of human. It is challenging and interesting. At the same time, it will not only promote the integration in the academic research and engineering practice in aircraft design, navigation and control areas, but also promote the universities and research institutes, enterprises to be more integrated and international. Then Professor Tao Zhang introduced the process, positioning and work plans of the committee establishment and showed his appreciation to the Key Laboratory and TCGNC for their endeavor to the establishment of IARC (Asia-Pacific Venue). Renlin Tang illustrated the process and existing problems of the upcoming IARC in Yantai and hoped that the committee and Yantai Naval Aeronautical Engineering University will make the competition to be a new level. Finally, Professor Zongxia Jiao issued the letter of appointment to the first board.

The IARC ia an international top event in robot’s area. It is founded by AUVSI IN 1991 and was first established in China as an Asia-Pacific Venue in 2012. The organizers are TCGNC and Science and Technology on Aircraft Control Laboratory. The seventh generation task will be started since 2014. It is about the heterogeneous cooperation of multi ground robots and multi aerial robots which is known as “Shepherd Action”. The IARC (Asia-Pacific Venue) will be in Yantai China in August 2014 and host by the Naval Aeronautical Engineering Institute.
