The 2014 International Aerial Robotics Competition (Asia-Pacific Venue) was held successfully by the Technical Committee on Guidance, Navigation and Control (TCGNC),CSAA and the Science and Technology on Aircraft Control Laboratory in Yantai City, Shandong Province on August 4-6. The 13 university teams (from China, Spain, Singapore, India, Iran and Hong Kong, China) gathered in the Stadium of Shandong Institute of Business and Technology and achieved part of the new mission.
The Mission 7 rules are as follows. Mission 7 will challenge teams to demonstrate three new behaviors that have never been attempted in any of the past six IARC missions. First, “interaction between aerial robots and moving objects (specifically, autonomous ground robots)”. Second, navigation in a sterile environment with no external navigation aids such as GPS or large stationary points of reference such as walls. Third, interaction between competing autonomous air vehicles.
Since this year, only the team from Beihang University drove out a "sheep" successfully, and the United States Venue has not achieved a task breakthrough, the first stage of the Mission 7 will continue to 2015. We believe that more universities would be attracted to join in the competition.
