August, 12-14, 2016, the IEEE CGNCC2016 was held successfully in Nanjing, China. Over 650 academic representatives attended the conference.

IEEE CGNCC 2016 is sponsored by Technical Committee on Guidance, Navigation and Control (TCGNC) of Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics (CSAA), Science and Technology on Aircraft Control Laboratory and IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS) Chapter, Nanjing, China. It is technically co-sponsored by Technical Committee on Control Theory (TCCT) of Chinese Association of Automation (CAA). IEEE CGNCC 2016 is organized by Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), CASC Science and Technology on Aerospace Intelligent Control Laboratory, Beihang University (BUAA), and AVIC Xi'an Flight Automatic Control Research Institute.

The opening ceremony of conference was hosted by Prof. Jiang Bin, dean of NUAA college of automation engineering, vice director of TCGNC of CSAA. Co-chair of the conference, research professor Wang Yingxun and president of NUAA, Prof. Nie Hong made opening addresses respectively. The conference invited four international famous scholars of GNC to make wonderful invited speeches, they are IFAC Fellow, IEEE Fellow, Professor of Brigham Young University, Prof. Randy W. Beard; IEEE Fellow, Distinguished Expert of National Thousands of People plan, Prof. Tao Gang; Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor of Zhejiang University, Prof. Yang Huayong; EIC Fellow, CSME Fellow, Professor of University of Toronto, Prof. Liu Hugh Hongtao. Besides, the conference established the “Chief Designers’ Forum” of Guidance, Navigation and Control firstly. They are Shenyang Aircraft Design and Research Institute, research professor Fan Yanming; Beijing Institute of Control Engineering, research professor Hu Jun; Xi'an Flight Automatic Control Research Institute, research professor Lei Hongjie; Beijing Aerospace Automatic Control Institute, research professor Zhengyu Song; Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang Institute of Automation, research professor He Yuqing. These chief designers took part in many national key projects. They proposed series of academic problems about guidance, navigation and control combining the engineering practice. They made wonderful presentations and communications with scholars.

After a rigorous peer-review process, 566 papers have been accepted for either oral or poster presentation at the conference in 44 technical sessions, which including 4 special sessions. All Accepted Papers will be published by IEEE, Which will be indexed by EI Compendex.

After several rounds of review, the program committee selects 8 candidate student papers as FENG Ru Best Paper Award finalist, and 4 candidate young scholar papers as LI Ming Best Paper Award finalist. The reward for the first author for students of the authors of the paper. The former rewards the first student authors. In order to encourage more youth from home and abroad to devote to frontier academic research and the key technological innovation of CGNCC, the latter rewards the outstanding youth science and technology workers below 45. These two awards must be elected by peer review. FENG Ru Best Paper Awards are no more than 2, and LI Ming Best Paper Award is no more than one. After local defence, Wen Liyan from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Fu Yu from University of Toronto awarded FENG Ru Best Paper.
