 The 2016 International Aerial Robotics Competition was held successfully

  The 2016 international Aerial Robotics Competition (Asia Pacific region) was held from September 23rd to September 24th at the Beihang University gymnasium, 107 players from 9 domestic and foreign university teams and 2 universities participated in the competition.

 

The contest of the guiding units are the State Council and the central military air traffic control committee, People's Republic of China science and Technology Department, People's Republic of China Ministry of industry and information technology, the State Sports General Administration and China Association of science and technology. Besides, it is sponsored by the China Aviation Institute and the Beihang University Institute of Aeronautics, undertaked by China unmanned aircraft system, the special committee of Chinese Aviation Association Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC branch), aircraft control key laboratory of technology integration and Beijing Zhi Zhen culture media Ltd. The competition was sponsored by Da Jiang Creative Technology Ltd, Shenzhen City, sponsored also.

 

  The In September 23rd, the director of the organizing committee, China Aviation Association Secretary General Wu Song, deputy secretary of the Party committee of Beihang University Cheng Jiwei, director of the organizing committee, the organizing committee consultant, Georgia Polytechnic University professor Robert.C.Michelson gave speeches at the opening ceremony.

 

The international Aerial Robotics Competition is an international tournament for college students, has been held every year since its inception in 1991,which has been held for 25 years, this year is the third time to compete the most challenging task - "seventh generation air shepherd task". According to the rules of the competition, the air robot is "dog", the site 10 random mobile ground robot is the "sheep", 4 sets of random moving ground obstacle robot is the "wolf". Aerial Robot (Shepherd) was required to drive the 7 above ground robots (sheep) rushed to the site outside the green edge to complete 7A (pen) in 10 minutes. And then, enter the 7B phase, achieving the competition behavior and other aerial robot, the task is called "the shepherd air mission".

 

The game requires air robot to complete the task without manual intervention, it needs the technical support with dynamic multi target tracking and positioning, autonomous situation judgment and decision making tasks, planning, computing technology, indoor optical flow and visual navigation and aircraft high precision fast quasi steady control etc. The significance of the air robot competition is not to defeat the opponent, but to establish a mechanism to promote the improvement of the technology of aerial robotics. Through the completion of a number of tasks that have been seemingly impossible, the success of the field not only promote the level of technology continues to improve, but also demonstrated the relentless pursuit of science and the spirit of continuous innovation.

 

Because of the difficulty of the task in this game, the Asia Pacific Division and the North American division still has no team can complete the task. However, compared to previous years, the participating teams in the technical innovation, task planning and strategy, system design, team organization and coordination and other aspects have demonstrated significant progress, establishing a solid foundation for the mission.

 

After two days of competition, Zhejiang University ZMART team, Harbin Institute of Technology team and Xiamen University egret team won the international Aerial Robotics Competition "air shepherd" 7A task first, second and third prize respectively in Asia Pacific Division; Naval Aeronautical Engineering Institute Hai Yi team won the "best independent control award; the Hong Kong University Science & Technology team won the" best dynamic control and technical papers; Nanjing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics team won the best creative design award; the Beihang University team won the best integration award; the Indian Institute of Technology team won the best team award.
