 The 2017 International Aerial Robotics Competition and UAV Education Equipment Exhibition were held successfully

  The 2017 international air robot contest (Asia Pacific Division) (IARC2017) and the UAV education equipment exhibition were held in Beijing from August 26, 2017 to 27. The contest is directed by the China Association for science and technology, jointly sponsored by the China Aviation society, Beihang University, and the international unmanned aircraft systems association.


In August 26th, 12 university teams from the Asia Pacific region, 137 athletes and judges gathered at the Beihang University gymnasium for the opening ceremony. Chinese Aviation Association Secretary General Wu Song, deputy party secretary Li Junfeng, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics contest founder of the American Georgia Polytechnic University professor Robert Michelson professor took part in the opening ceremony, the Secretary General Wu Song announced the beginning of 2017 international Aerial Robotics Competition (Asia Pacific Division), the excellent UAV array performances was carried on after the opening ceremony.


The international Aerial Robotics Competition is one of the world's international, technology and competitive events towards student, since its inception in 1991, it has been held for 26 years. It was introduced in China in 2012. The Asia Pacific Division was established, synchronizing with the United States division. The rules of the competition in the two divisions are in full agreement, and the teams that complete the scheduled tasks will receive generous bonuses, and the competition will also go into the next generation.


In 26 years, by the Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University, Berlin Polytechnic University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Tsinghua University completed the six generation from the automatic intelligent autonomous control to gradually improve the high technology competition task. Each generation task was almost impossible before the proposal. However, through the continuous innovation research of each participating team and the continuous improvement of related technical level, the task of "impossible" has become a reality.


The contest in 2014 opened the seventh generation game "air Collie action", this year is the fourth competition and the seventh generation task. According to the rules of the game, the air robot is a "shepherd dog". The 10 randomly moving ground robots are sheep, and 4 randomly moving ground robots are wolves". Aerial Robot ("shepherd") in 10 minutes of the ground robot more than 4 ("sheep") through the air and landed in the touch barrier "sheep" containment to the site (green beyond the edge of the fold), the completion of the first phase of the seventh generation task set task, 7a task.


The team competition needs multi-targets tracking and positioning, autonomous situation judgment and decision making tasks, planning, interior flow and visual navigation and aircraft with high precision and high dynamic control technology to complete the task in the dynamic game.


The seventh generation mission, designed by Chinese and American scholars, aims to build a high-end artificial intelligence platform to attract elite students who are committed to breaking through seemingly impossible tasks. The basic goal is to advance the most advanced technological innovations of the current air robot by setting up challenging, practical and meaningful competition tasks.


After fierce competition, the team worked hard in two days, making many breakthroughs, even close to the match goal. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, the two division failed to complete the task 7a.


However, the Asia Pacific Division teams in this year showed three technical level in the international competition: global machine strategy and mission planning, indoor navigation and control, while the completion of fast and accurate flight control technology these three aspects have made significant progress. For example, the Ningxia University team for the first time to participate in the competition, achieving effective touch, the Zhongshan University team’s fast, accurate and hypersonic flight control technology made an impression, the Zhejiang University team recorded three sheep into the sheepfold, realizing the contest four years of historical breakthrough, founder of the Georgia Institute of Technology contest professor Robert gave high praise.


After the competition referee group serious evaluation, Zhejiang University team won the first prize, the Harbin Institute of Technology team won the second place, the Nanjing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics team won the third place, the Harbin Institute of Technology team won the best technical report award, Xiamen University team won the first prize of mission planning system, the Zhongshan University team won the first prize of the Beihang University system control, system control team won the two prize, Ningxia University team won the first prize of the navigation system. The Civil Aviation University of China team won the two prize of navigation, Tsinghua University team won the design award, India's University team won the team prize, India University of science and technology innovation team won the design award.


In addition, as one of the highlights of this competition, held the first UAV education equipment exhibition, exhibition of UAV educational equipment industry of new products, new technology, new achievements and experience of educational equipment innovation in the field of UAV UAV education equipment pulsation, share product information to provide high end platform for the popularization of UAV knowledge plays a positive role.


Next year will continue to carry out the "dream angel Cup" international air robot contest (Asia Pacific Division), we look forward to achieving breakthroughs in the completion of the air shepherd dog action 7a task, stepped into the 7b mission. By then, will face more difficult technical challenges, air robot not only interacts with the ground robot, but also plays games between the air robots, which is more exciting.


In the international Aerial Robotics Competition, each team have demonstrated high level of technology, making good progress and breakthrough in every year. We see the players’ courage and spirit when facing the difficulty. The competition also let us experience the happiness of technological progress.
